Examples
As stated in the assessment criteria, participans of this module are required to deliver an end-work in which one of the subjects is being investigated in a more thorough manner. On this page, by means of inspiration (and documentation) we provide some examples of elaborations that we have collected over the years.
Tuma made a nice painting in the style of De Chiroco and his metaphysical movement. He used this to give the transition from horizontal to vertical metaphysics a more visual interpretation.
Tuma also provided an elaborate explanation of his work.
Even though Ansel did his presentation of the Scientific Revolution, he chose to make an elaboration of Göbekli Tepe. He also provided a nice and detailed description of the work, how it was made and what relation it had with the subject at hand.
Listening to this nice song, you can see how changes that took place hundreds of years ago still have their repercussions today.
Following her presentation of Göbekli Tepe, Julia made a nice video about the origin of religions and their relation with churches, architecture and people. Apart from the video itself, she wrote quite an elaborate explanation of the work.
Emma gave a new interpretation of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, using a midi-controller and touchdesigner. Apart from the video that you can see below, she also gave a thorough description of her ideas and why she thought this would resonate with the subjects of the module.
Polina Porshakova has created a text-based game on Twine, creating a path that a player can follow in order to reflect on their stance towards contemporary art. You can download a zip containing the script and the instructions on how to load that script into Twine.
Gabija made a small artwork with which she reflected on futurism.
In her work, you can clearly see the origin story of the futuristic movement, with Marinetti standing near the wreckage of a car wreckage. You can also see how Gabija is going outside of the normal painting-area, using the frame not to seperate the work from its surroundings but making it part of it. The colorful construction on top of the work resonates with the work of Umberto Boccioni or Luigi Russolo: a bit chaotic and not adhering to tradition. It makes you think.
Youri made a nice song in which he reflects on the phenomenon of mechanical reproducability:
When you listen to his work, you can hear the role of mechanically produced music, both in form as in content: the text reflects the subject of the music. You can imagine a computer making this kind of sound; Youri going completely over the top with all the possibilities that contempory technology offers the music makers.
