4. 1800: German Romanticism

   As a result of the French Revolution a group of artists, thinkers and writers in Jena (Germany) came up with the idea that efficiency and rationalism could not account for the whole of human experiences. They invented the ego and the public and argumented for a return to nature. They called their movement romanticism.
